England, May 2005, family
First we visited Carol and Gordon in Malvern. Their house is in a great location, except it seems to be in a rain shadow and the garden is often dry. They have done wonders with what they say was a scruffy patch of land. Gordon has resurrected and recontoured a stream that had been piped under the garden. Topsoil was brought in, and the land was graded and planted with lawns, a few new trees, and flower beds.

Carol's garden. In the background are the Malvern Hills, and the Common is just on the other side of their hedge.

I took gardening gloves on the trip and did use them.
This is the front of the house.
It's a very comfortable house with more bath-rooms than most British houses.

You can see the dry streambed, lined with river stones. Gordon can turn the water on at the upper end. His vegetable and fruit gardens are behind hedges and can't be seen here.

The stream, and the little summer house, with Craig, Gordon and Carol enjoying a beer.

It was very cold much of the time, unusual for May.

On the right, that's me sitting by the stream with Gordon and Carol.

On the right, I am sitting on the patio behind the house.

Gordon takes pride in his excellent cooking, and even took a class locally.

Mom's flat is small, but it's in a very attractive complex, called Souchay Court. Here you can see her in her living room, and some views of the building and the adjacent street, Clothorn  Road. Richard lives a block away.
